2010 Youth Tour

Applications are being accepted now for the 2010 Talquin Youth Tour which will be held February 10-11, 2010. Students who are currently enrolled as a high school junior are encouraged to apply.  The application may be downloaded under Community/Youth Tour on this site or picked up at any Talquin Area Office.  Students will be selected based on community service, leadership, public speaking skills and academics.

One student per high school will be selected as a Talquin delegate and will visit the Florida state capital for a three day all expense paid conference. While in Tallahassee, students will be introduced to our cooperative and learn about the cooperative way, while visiting the state’s capital. They will vote on issues while visiting the House of Representatives’ chambers and attend a mock session in the Supreme Court.

During this conference, four of these students will be chosen to represent Talquin in Washington, D.C. for the National Rural Electric Youth Tour, June 12-17, 2010. The Washington, D.C. trip will include visits to the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, and many more historic sights with hundreds of other students from around the nation. More highlights include watching the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and the Silent Drill Platoon perform at the Sunset Parade at the Iwo Jima Memorial, and a tour of the Smithsonian Museum and the Holocaust Museum.

In order to qualify:
  • students must currently be enrolled as a junior in a local high school or be a registered home school student.
  • their parents or grandparents must be a Talquin member;
  • and they must currently live in Talquin’s four county service area.
