WPCA Adjustment Effective March 1, 2010

You may recall that over the last several months, we have been able to lower the WPCA (Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment) two times by a total of $4 per month per 1,000 kWh. This lowering was temporary and we anticipated an increase in the WPCA early this year, due to a 72% recent increase in the cost of hydropower purchased from SEPA (Southeastern Power Administration), increased rail costs, and the rising cost of purchased power from Seminole Electric. The Cooperative has to pay for energy that is generated and as a result, these costs must be passed on to the Membership. We have held off the increase as long as possible to allow Members to get past the cold weather months. The WPCA will be increased on March 1, 2010 by 4 mills, to 19 mills. This will result in an increase of about $4 per typical residential bill for 1,000 kWh.  We need to work together to keep energy costs under control. We have provided ways to reduce usage in your home on this website and provide at no cost an “Energy Saving Guidelines” brochure at all of our Area Offices. We encourage you to use our energy analysis service and be conscientious of your energy habits, especially controlling your thermostat, during these tough economic times.
