TAMPA, FL., QUINCY, FL., and MIAMI, FL., – January 13, 2022 – Three utility solar projects are taking shape for Talquin Electric Cooperative members. The projects are being developed by Origis Energy and will be constructed, owned, and operated by Origis. The solar projects will deliver clean energy at competitive rates under Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) executed between Talquin Electric Cooperative, Seminole Electric Cooperative, and Origis.
Today representatives celebrated the start of construction for the three projects. FL Solar D1 – Hinson Solar, a 4 MWAC project, is located in Gadsden County, FL. FL Solar D2 – Hilliardville Solar, a 2 MWAC project, is located in Wakulla County, and FL Solar D3 – Bristol Solar, with a capacity rating of 0.63 MWAC, is located in Liberty County. Construction is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2022.
“At Talquin Electric, we are doing our part to provide clean energy to Members so we can all benefit from a clean environment,” said Tracy Bensley, General Manager at Talquin Electric. “These three projects will provide enough clean energy to replace fossil fuel-generated electricity for up to 1,400 homes in our area. We appreciate and value the commitment Seminole Electric and Origis Energy have provided to Talquin Members in making these projects a reality.”
Talquin Electric Cooperative’s wholesale power provider, Seminole Electric Cooperative, is pleased to support the project.
“Seminole’s purpose is to provide essential wholesale services to our Members, like Talquin, through a balanced, diversified portfolio of safe, affordable, and reliable energy resources. As technology continues to advance and as the price decreases, solar is increasingly becoming a part of our power portfolio. We are proud of Talquin’s service to the community and excited to be a part of this effort,” stated Seminole Electric Cooperative.
“Leadership at Talquin is tapping into the power of solar to deliver cost-effective, clean energy to the grid,” said George B. Reed III, Vice President, Distributed Generation at Origis Energy. “We look forward to the completion of the solar projects to provide clean power to the Talquin Members for many years to come.”
